Praise To Coventina

Respecting and Appreciating Our Lady Coventina. Coventina is CoG’s matron goddess. Coventina is native to Northumbria, up near Hadrian’s Wall. She is little known beyond that, if at all. She is a goddess of sweet water – springs, streams, and rivers (not the sea).

It is appropriate to give her offerings. Thousands of coins, jewelry, and other gifts have been found in her spring, left there as propitiatory gifts. Since we are not in Britain, yet we request the favor of her presence at our meetings, I feel it is appropriate to offer her gifts of value to preserve the sanctity and purity of fresh waters. To that end, I suggest donations, small or large, to organizations that seek to protect sweet water.

Coventina

Praise be to our lady Coventina!
You of the springs and streams,
Of creeks and rivers and lakes
Yours is the chalice overspilling with life
Your well feeds the hearts and minds of all creatures,
You in whose depths the greatest treasures lie.
Come to us.
We offer you coins and jewelry and precious things
We resolve that your fresh waters remain free and pure
We promise not to allow your sacred waters
to be desecrated by mortal carelessness
Come to us.
We sing of your sparkling sweetwaters.
In them our divisions dissolve
and we become of one mind and one purpose,
the health and viability of our Covenant.
And of our matron Coventina, and all the many deities we revere.

Praise Be Our Lady Coventina!
